Solution: Surveillance

Challenge

Deploy a surveillance system that can easily scale to meet the dramatically increased needs for escalating number of cameras and video streams, and archive the image data for longer periods of time associated with incident reviews, security and safety audits, and litigation requirements of video evidence for defense and prosecution.

Solution

Address today's surveillance storage demands by implementing a SAN-based DVR solution to serve the need for additional cameras and higher resolution images, increased frames per second, extended data retention periods and storage expansion beyond the 120GB to 1.5TB found in most DVR solutions today. For an entry level solution, deploy up to 32 Toshiba cameras feeding streams into Toshiba Surveillix DVR recorders, which in turn feed into the storage network consisting of an iQstor iQ1000 Fibre Channel Storage System for on-line storage and an iQ1200 SATA Storage System for near-line storage. A tape backup unit can also be easily included for additional archiving. iQstor's iQ1000 and iQ1200 can easily scale to multi-terabytes per subsystem. More capacity can be deployed by adding expansion enclosures.

Benefits

  • The iQstor-based solution provides storage growth on demand and the ability to scale that storage to multi-terabytes, allowing security administrators to easily allocate additional storage - on-demand -- to a recording server as needed.
  • By enabling the use of low-cost mass storage devices such as SATA for high quality images, long-term storage becomes more affordable and the ability to store and access high quality images for longer periods of time allows critical video footage to be available in the event it is needed in a highly cost-effective manner.
  • Deploying an intelligent iQstor-based SAN delivers the ability to store, migrate and retrieve data with little or no manual intervention, increasing IT workflow and productivity while reducing or eliminating associated personnel costs.
